Delano Hotel was reborn in 1994 when NYC hotelier Ian Schrager bought a rundown building on the sands of South Beach’s Art Deco district and hired French industrial architect Philippe Starck to recreate it into a dream playground. Jennie Yip, the founder of Jenjuice Hospitality, was transferred from Schrager’s Royalton Hotel in Manhattan to join Delano’s opening team and launch its food & beverage department.
Yip trained 148 food & beverage employees and managed seven outlets — the Rose Bar, Beach Bar, Blue Door restaurant, an eat-in kitchen cafe, poolside dining, meeting & event spaces, catering and room service. It was a tour de force, a celebrity playground.
The Delano still is the gold standard for a tourist’s wonderland.
